Join Week 1 of mahjong lessons. No experience needed. Gain an introduction to American Mahjong and see what all the fuss is about! No prior experience needed.
We will start from the beginning, explaining the tiles, NMJL card, The Charleston and play a game so you have a sense of general gameflow.

Intro to Mahjong: Newton-3 Week Series
Learn American mahjong basics in a 3 week series, following NMJL rules. No prior experience needed. We provide the full mahjong setup, a cheat sheet and instructional handouts. We break down the game in a fun and accessible way.
Specific location shared upon registration. There are a limited number of free parking spaces on the street. First come, first serve. The venue is adjacent to a parking lot ($6) and accessible to the Green Line MBTA (Woodlands T Stop).

Join our second week of mahjong lessons. This is perfect if you have taken mahjong 101 or know some basics, and want hands on support to gain more confidence and refine your understanding of rules. You should have played at least one game of mahjong. You don’t need to have played more than that!
We will review all rules, dive into the Charleston, discuss decision making strategies, and play at least a couple of games. We’ll discuss some nuances with the NMJL card and review joker rules and other rules of game play. This is hands on and we’ll help meet you where you are at.
You should have a basic understanding of the following:
Generally how to name tiles
A basic understanding of how the NMJL card is organized, but it’s okay to not understand the parentheses of every hand
General game flow: you’ve played a game at least once, even if it was awhile ago
Ticket includes:

Hands on support to refine rules and improve confidence at the table.
Help with Charleston decision making
While you should already have a basic understanding of how to read the NMJL card, you may need more support understanding the nuances of the NMJL card. We’ll highlight trickier hands.
Improve how to choose a hand and pivot when needed
Defensive strategies
We are teachers by trade, and have expertise in differentiating for individual student needs. We will support you at the table based on where you are at and what you want regarding hands on support. You may repeat a guided play class as many times as you want, and we can tailor it to your needs each time.
Pre-requisite: Must have a basic knowledge of american mahjong rules. You have either taken an intro to mahjong class or have equivalent experience. You know the tiles, generally how to navigate the NMJL card, and have played a game at least 2-3 times.
