Learn to play American Mahjong at Kimpton Marlowe Hotel in Cambridge! Introducing a three week beginner series at The Bambara Kitchen and Bar. Mahjong instructors Emily and Bev of The Canasta and Mahjong Connection will help you learn and improve your game and connect with other players each week!

Sip on a mahjong-themed cocktail or order from the mahjong inspired food menu, as part of Kimpton Marlowe Hotel's Mahjong and Mingle series (food and drink purchased separately).

The three week beginner series is perfect for brand-new players or anyone looking for a back to basics refresher. No prior experience is required—just bring your curiosity and get ready for a fun, social game! Or, join us for open play as your schedule allows.

Come solo and meet other players or bring your group! A full mahjong set-up will be provided during class, including all mahjong sets, instructional handouts, laminated cheat sheets, and NMJL cards available to borrow during class. Parking is complimentary for Mahjong Monday participants.

Agenda:

Mahjong 101-Week 1 of the series

• History of mahjong, learn the tiles and deal, understand how to read the NMJL card, learn the Charleston, experience a general flow of game play

Mahjong 102- Week 2 of the series

• Take a deeper dive into the Charleston strategy, solidify rules of game play, and play ~2 games with instructor support.

Mahjong 103 - Week 3 of the series

• Review important rules of the game, discuss strategies for pivoting, determining which line to go for, etc., play ~2-3 games with instructor support, be prepared to play with anyone at the conclusion of the class!
