About Us
Beverly and Emily are Canasta and Mah Jongg Instructors in the Greater Boston Area and Cape Cod. As a mother-daughter duo, we have been game enthusiasts our entire lives and wish to spread the love of canasta and mah jongg to the greater community. Bev has been playing Canasta for over 60 years and Emily, who learned as a kid, has now been playing for over 30 years.
We created a highly visual curriculum where we play, play, play! We use a step-by-step approach to help you increase your confidence and master each game! We are known for our handouts and cheat sheets that break down the game. We want to make every lesson a fun, accessible, and high quality experience.
We know these games inside and out and have taught Canasta and Mah Jongg to hundreds of students through community groups such as Needham Community Education, Wellesley Council on Aging, Newton Community Education, JCC of Greater Boston, Weston Council on Aging, Waban Library Center, Brae Burn Country Club, Four Seasons Private Residences, Wellesley Service League, Orleans Senior Center, Arlington Community Education, Greentail Table and privately both in person and online.
We have hosted social play events in the Greater Boston Area at Trident Booksellers (Boston), Marriott Hotel-Newton, Donut Villa (Arlington), Moldova Restaurant (Newton) and Temple Emanuel (Newton). We are always looking for new locations to host social play.
Bev is a retired teacher, principal and special education administrator. Beverly received her bachelors in education from Boston University and her masters in education from Tufts. Emily is a high school special education teacher who specializes in supporting students with needs in executive functioning, social pragmatics and biology. Emily received her B.S in Neuroscience from The University of Michigan and an Ed.M in Mind, Brain and Education from Harvard University-focusing on how to apply learning science to make learning accessible for diverse learners. We bring our professional knowledge of teaching, learning, and curriculum development to help break down the game in a friendly and approachable way.
