Already know the basics of mahjong and want to play? Join Emily and Bev of The Canasta and Mahjong Connection for open play, guided play, or mahjong 102.
This is meant to be friendly, social, and community building. We will provide full mahjong set-ups. At the current time, we will do our best to match by level, but must be willing to play with beginner players.
Arrive early or stay late to mingle and eat from the Mahjong Monday menu at Kimpton Marlowe Hotel. Sip on a mahjong-themed cocktail or order from the mahjong inspired food menu, as part of Kimpton Marlowe Hotel's Mahjong and Mingle series (food and drink purchased separately).
Come solo and meet other players or bring your group! This is not a lesson, and independence with mahjong play is required. Bring your own NMJL card. We will have a handful available to borrow. Parking is complimentary for Mahjong Monday participants.
Which ticket type should you choose?
Open play: You will be matched with other players and you must know how to play without instruction. Independent play. Some level of independence is required, but an instructor will be available for help.
Guided play: An instructor will float between guided play tables offering supervised help, rule reminders and strategies.
Mahjong 102: An instructor will provide more support at your table teaching you rules and basic strategy for gameplay. You must know how to read the NMJL card and how to name the tiles, and have a general understanding of game flow (from a mahjong 101 class or equivalent). Game play will be the slowest and most instructional.
